Résumé : Moduli 225 est un système de construction modulaire en bois pour maisons de vacances; il fut développé entre 1968 et 1974 par les architectes finnois Kristian Gullichsen et Juhani Pallasmaa. A travers l'utilisation d'éléments standards préfabriqués, le système a permis à quiconque de construire une maison esthétiquement réussie et modulable à souhait en fonction des préférences de chacun. Avec le système Moduli, l'association fructueuse d'éléments produits en série, combinée à une grande liberté de choix individuels, incarne l'expression moderniste par excellence. Que ce soit la simplicité de sa forme et de sa géométrie, son échelle humaine ou encore l'harmonie de ses proportions, tout dans Moduli laisse transparaitre des valeurs esthétiques universelles.Moduli 225 is a modular timber frame system for holiday homes developed from 1968 to 1974 by the Finnish architects Kristian Gullichsen and Juhani Pallasmaa. Through the use of prefabricated standard elements, the system allowed anyone to construct a building of high aesthetic quality in a flexible and modifiable way by combining components according to their personal preferences. Through the Moduli system, the industrial serial production of components was successfully combined with freedom of choice, individuality, proportional harmony, and modernist expression. The simple standard shape and geometry and the humane scale and harmony of proportion of Moduli all represent universal aesthetics.

Résumé : A new study examining the life and work of Helene Schjerfbeck, the Finnish painter who influenced Bacon, Freud and Auerbach. Published to accompany a major retrospective at the Royal Academy, running from 20 July to 27 October 2019, the first time her works have been seen in London since 1890.0Though little known outside her native country, Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946) is one of Finland's best-loved artists. Her career, which stretched from the late 1870s to the end of the Second World War, encompassed both Impressionism and Modernism. This book records an exhibition that marks the first time her works have been seen in the UK since she exhibited in London herself in 1890. It presents the full range of her exceptional paintings and drawings, with 70 works in all genres, including portrait, landscape and still-life.0Schjerfbeck's technique, her social and cultural context and her legacy are all examined in depth by the authors. Her influence on such artists as Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and Frank Auerbach is considered, while a series of self-portraits reveals the artist from youth to old age. The book also explores the role of the masquerade in Schjerfbeck's work, and the impact of old-master paintings on her practice.
