Exposition. Biel / Bienne, Kunsthaus Centre d'art Pasquart Biel. 2020

Résumé

Franco-Canadian artist Kapwani Kiwanga's work traces the pervasive impact of power asymmetries by placing historic narratives in dialogue with contemporary realities. She questions the ways in which the writing of history, power systems and the generation of knowledge function, undermining the official understanding of truth by expanding history with popular belief and spirituality. Her work is articulated across a range of materials and mediums including sculpture, installation, photography, video, and performance. 0The solo exhibition and accompanying publication reflect Kiwanga's career with a selection of significant, representative as well as new works. It will function as a narrative that places emphasis on the impact of disciplinary architecture and spatial elements on the human body as well as the research into post-colonial histories and stories that invite one to see things from multiple perspectives so as to look differently at existing structures.0Kapwani Kiwanga lives and works in Paris. She received the Frieze Artist Award and was the winner of the annual Sobey Art Award in 2018.
